We recently spoke with Dr Winston Jong, Medical Director of EMA Global, who will be chairing the ITIC Medical Directors Forum which we are bringing to our APAC conference for the first time in Singapore next week.
How long have you worked in the industry, and what do you most enjoy about it?
I started doing medical assistance in 1992. I am the founding member of EMA Global. I observed the poor quality of the patients that were brought into our ICU in such poor states and I felt I could do better. The greatest joy was to render the best medical care outside the comfort of a hospital environment.
How long have you been attending ITIC? What do you value about the event? What do you think ITIC APAC offers the travel and health insurance community?
EMA Global has attended ITIC for the past 8 years. It provides a common ground to meet industry players, both new and old, to exchange ideas and often learn new tricks. ITIC also provides the opportunities to establish the missing links in the network we are lacking.
What are the most important obstacles facing the travel and international health insurance sector as we look to the future from your perspective?
Cost containment and the reliability of the partners we rely on.
Which sessions are you most looking forward to attending at ITIC APAC?
MDF is always interesting so I am glad to be chairing the session at the ITIC APAC conference this year. General assistance sessions like hospital cost containment, and country-specific health care standards. It might be interesting to have a session for medical assistance companies to give 3-minute presentations about themselves, perhaps in a recorded video format.
What is your view of the Medical Directors Forum and why should attendees participate?
In this forum, the MDs present their most challenging cases. As there are many solutions to the problems, it is interesting to hear what other people will do under such crises. There are often many take-home messages to learn from.
